All I have to report on this 1st day of August is - the plants have had enough!!! They are starting to drop like flies. I just can't seem to give everything enough water. Today it was 108 degrees and tomorrow is suppose to be worse - 109. I've lost 3 KNOCKOUT roses and 4 of the Elaeagnus shrubs which are suppose to be extremely drought tolerant. I'm praying for rain.
I'm wondering when my plants will start dying from this heat, too. It will certainly be the survival of the fittest. I have a couple of KO's that look horrible, my lotus is barely making it. But most look fairly good - for what it's going through! I wouldn't make it out there!!!!
ReplyDeleteHolleyGarden - Part of my problem, aside from extreme heat and no rain, is that nearly every plant I have is new, not established. All were planted in the spring and some last fall. Oh well, I will just replant next spring and hope that 2012 is better.
ReplyDeleteHope springs eternal in a gardener's heart -- but I'm really sorry about the losses you've taken :(
ReplyDeletePatricia - Thanks and the quote is so true.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for visiting! I love making new blog friends. We are experiencing a mini-heat wave in Montana (not nearly as hot as where you are!) and everything (including me!) is looking a little worse for wear. Don't know how you mid-westerners do it! Good luck.
